Fairshake names 32 House candidates for midterm backing

After the Senate stalled a major crypto market-structure bill in September, super PAC Fairshake named 32 House incumbents it plans to support in November’s midterms, according to The Associated Press’s report on the slate.

  • 32 House candidates: 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats.
  • Six candidates are slated for $1 million in spending each.
  • Fairshake and affiliated PACs reported about $120 million in cash at the end of August.

Which House members are getting the largest commitments?

Three Democrats and three Republicans are each set to receive $1 million in support, AP reported. The Democrats are Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Steven Horsford of Nevada and Derek Tran of California.

The Republican recipients are French Hill of Arkansas, Bill Huizenga of Michigan and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin. Fairshake has not disclosed the planned amounts for the other 26 candidates.

How does the Senate bill fit into the spending?

The Senate blocked a vote to advance the CLARITY Act in September, leaving the industry-backed market-structure legislation stalled. The 49-50 vote followed disputes over ethics provisions related to President Donald Trump’s crypto interests, AP reported.

Fairshake has said its House slate backs candidates who support crypto policy in both parties. The group’s spokesman told AP that its affiliated committees spent $40 million supporting 29 Democrats and $31 million supporting 28 Republicans in primaries and special elections this year.

How much will Fairshake spend in House races?

The six $1 million commitments are the only individual House spending amounts publicly specified in the announcement. CoinDesk reported that Fairshake’s spending is through independent advertising, outside candidate campaigns, and that the ads do not necessarily focus on crypto policy.

Fairshake has not said whether it will add further House or Senate spending before November. Its largest general-election commitment disclosed so far is nearly $30 million against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio, according to CoinDesk’s report on Fairshake’s candidate slate.
