What backs ZeroFi’s wrapped tokens?

Wrapped tokens connect assets on one blockchain to applications on another. ZeroFi’s zXMR is designed to represent deposited Monero (XMR) on Ethereum, with the backing held by the bridge rather than inside the token itself.

  • Underlying asset: XMR
  • Wrapped asset: zXMR, an ERC-20 token
  • Intended backing: one XMR for each zXMR
  • Redemption: burn or return zXMR to request XMR from the bridge

That arrangement makes XMR usable in Ethereum applications, but it adds a custody and redemption layer. The public ledger gives readers a way to inspect the zerofi record, including deposits, withdrawals, payouts and reserves.

How does ZeroFi backing work?

When a user deposits XMR, the bridge records the deposit and issues zXMR on Ethereum. The deposited XMR is held by the bridge’s custody system, while the corresponding token can move between Ethereum wallets and smart contracts.

To redeem, a holder submits zXMR for withdrawal. The bridge processes the request and pays XMR from its reserves. In principle, this keeps tokens outstanding aligned with assets held for redemption.

ZeroFi’s explorer describes custody clusters, node committees and a bridge ledger that tracks these events. That provides a record to examine, though a ledger entry alone does not establish that every issued token can be redeemed immediately.

What can readers verify about zXMR?

The confirmed design is a one-to-one wrapped representation: deposit native XMR, receive zXMR, then request the underlying asset back through the bridge. The explorer exposes deposits, batches, withdrawals, payouts and reserve information, with figures attributed to nodes and ledger heights.

Those records help users follow how the system accounts for backing. The open question is whether reserves and operational capacity will remain sufficient as deposits, withdrawals and demand change. Redemption depends on both the accounting and the custody system successfully paying out.

What does one-to-one backing mean for holders?

One-to-one describes the intended relationship between token supply and underlying assets. It does not mean zXMR is XMR: zXMR relies on Ethereum contracts to transfer and use the token, and on ZeroFi’s bridge process to return XMR.

That distinction matters when comparing wrapped assets. A token can track its intended value while still facing bridge delays, contract failures or a shortfall in redeemable reserves. Readers assessing zXMR should look at outstanding supply alongside reserve and payout records, and distinguish published accounting from a guarantee of instant redemption.
